Pass Door Systems (PDS) invests over £475K in design, equipment and testing to meet The JCOP and Part L requirements

When it comes to fire and rescue services (FRSs), safeguarding is not just a legal requirement – it’s a moral imperative. Every individual in the community, regardless of their circumstances, deserves protection from abuse, harm, and neglect.

Despite existing legislation, many FRSs still face challenges in implementing effective safeguarding measures. That’s why the Fire Standards Board (FSB) has introduced the Safeguarding Fire Standard – a comprehensive framework designed to embed safeguarding principles into the core operations of every FRS.

A fire classification system has been established for barrier products such as curtains, doors, and glass to indicate their effectiveness in preventing the spread of fire.

The three primary fire classifications are:  

• E (integrity rating) 

• EW (integrity and radiation rating) 

• EI (integrity and insulation rating) 

Each classification is expressed as a time in minutes, reflecting the product’s performance under defined test conditions.
