Automist activates electronically to provide earlier fire detection and faster activation - suppressing fires using up to 90% less water. Unlike a traditional sprinkler, the system is triggered by a combined heat and smoke detector so it doesn't rely on tempartures exceeding a pre-defined activation level. 

It is advantageous particularly for slower burning smouldering fires, which may produce large amounts of toxic smoke but take longer to generate enough heat to reach a sprinkler's activation temperature.
