Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (Fire Inspectors)
This national qualification is suitable for those who assess fire safety in complex premises e.g:
- Regulators – fire services, local building control officers and approved inspectors
- Assessors – fire risk assessors and fire safety professionals
- Designers – designers and architects of new buildings and alterations to existing
- Responsible for fire safety – managers, employees, owners and occupiers
Course 1: Principles of fire safety (5 days)
- Fire Safety Legislation
- Human behaviour in fire and causes and effects of fire
- Principles of fire risk assessment
- Fire detection and alarm systems
- Emergency escape lighting
- Fire safety signs, notices and routines
- Extinguishing media
- Fire safety management
Course 2: Risk assessing complex premises (5 days)
- Risk profiling and management
- Compartmentation, floor space factors
- Ventilation
- Means of escape
- Offices and shops, Factories and warehouses, Hotels, Atria, Houses in multiple occupation (HMO), Residential care premises, Shopping complexes
- Fire risk assessment of complex premises
Course 3: Risk assessing regulated and licensed venues (5 days)
- Legislation, enforcement agencies, crowd behaviour, safety and control
- Assembly buildings and performance venues
- Theatres and cinemas
- Night clubs and casinos
- Outdoor events and firework displays
- Pop concerts
Course 4: Building Regulations (9 days)
- The Building Act, Building Regulations and Statutory Consultation
- Means of escape horizontal and vertical
- Internal fire spread linings and structure
- External fire spread
- Access to buildings and evacuation of people with disabilities
- Access and facilities for fire and rescue service
Plus
Optional courses (minimum of 7 credits required) for qualification:
- CDM Regulations (4 credits)
- Fire Safety Enforcement (9 credits)
- Draft Enforceable Documents (3 credits)
